The Road Less Traveled

If you have heard of the Silk Road then you know more about the internet than the average person. If you shop using the Silk Road than you should probably keep that to yourself, because the Silk Road is, or was, an internet based Black Market.

On the Silk Road you were able to buy anything from Marijuana, Elephant Tusks, various illegal drugs and items, and if you have enough money, you could hire a Hit man. This website was a once thriving online store that used Bit-Coins (a form of internet currency) to purchase anything that has been deemed illegal by the U.S. government.

On October 2nd, the FBI stormed the house of Ross William Ulbricht of San Francisco and arrested him on charges of Narcotics Trafficking and the solicitation of one of the sites many "Hit-men". Ulbricht, also known by users of the Silk Road as "Dread Pirate Roberts" had been running the site since February 2011. After becoming aware of the website in late 2011 Senator Charles Schumer asked the FBI and DEA to shut down the website.

After October 2nd there was no place for the internet criminals to buy their drugs or illegal software until November 6th. On November 6th Forbes Magazine and Vice News reported that the "Silk Road 2.0" was online and being run by one of the Silk Roads old administrators. This news can be difficult to confirm unless you are running "TOR": a browser based proxy system that allows you to access websites that would normally get you sent to the top of the NSA's watch list. Be for warned, the site contains highly illegal products and contraband, it is not recommended that you visit it anytime soon.
